Post Bunionectomy Surgery Program

 This is a unique PT program tailored for post-bunionectomy surgery. We understand that each stage of recovery is different, so we have designed programs for the recent post-op (1-2 weeks), six weeks post-op, and older surgeries (past 3 months). Our thorough evaluation, which takes anywhere between 30 min to 40 min, is designed to assess your individual issues from swelling, mobility, weakness, and function affected. We will then progress to help you meet your unique goals, such as walking, running, and being active again. We will also address the factors that could affect the speed of your recovery. After the evaluation, we will visit with you with a personalized plan. The plan usually looks like this: 

1) 1-2 weeks: The post-op goal is to keep the motion of the first ray within normal ranges. We will also train you to manage the swelling and keep your range moving safely. This usually takes about three visits. 

2) Post six weeks: If full weight bearing is allowed, we will start working on helping you reach your goals (running, walking, and being active again). We will also coach you on what you must do to help you sustain your gains. This usually takes 4-6 weeks. 

3) Post three months: If you are still having trouble walking or your mobility is still limited, we will use different strategies to help increase your gains and decrease pain and then coach you on how to sustain this. This usually takes 4-6 weeks.

We will also work in close collaboration with your surgeon or podiatrist by sending them detailed reports. This is not only to ensure your optimum care but also to provide a comprehensive approach to your recovery. For this comprehensive program, you may file for insurance or pay cash. Your insurance may require a physician's prescription. We can assist you with that information as well.
