Electrical Stimulation

The trained clinician uses this highly effective modality to help decrease spasms, improve healing time, reduce swelling and pain, and increase healing. The procedure connects you to a modality using small pads. There are several waveforms, each with a different use, such as Hi volt (inflammation), pre-mod (spasms), IFC for acute pain, and microcurrent for chronic pain. This is usually used with therapeutic exercises and manual therapy. This is performed sometimes before or after a therapy session. This is good for acute pain and inflammation from sprains and strain. We have had great success with ankle sprain, knee sprain, and tennis elbow. It is also great for neck, lower back, shoulder, and hip pain. A PT Consult is not required for this procedure for a new client. If filing insurance, then a  PT Evaluation is necessary. This procedure is excellent, especially for maintenance therapy.

If you have insurance, they will cover this as part of your PT Encounter. To facilitate this, you need to have a PT Care plan and actively participate in therapy sessions.

If you're not currently in active therapy, you'll need to pay out of pocket for the maintenance program or treatment. Your first session takes about 30 min which includes a short assessment. The procedure itself, including setup, takes about 20 minutes, making it a convenient option for your busy schedule.
